Apple MacBook Pro MD313LL/A 13.3-Inch Reviews

Apple MacBook Pro MD313LL/A 13.3-Inch Reviews. The MacBook Pro line is, of course, at the top of Apple products. The setup of this machine was smooth. I was able to transfer all of the data and applications from my previous MacBook Pro to this new gadget without any issues at all. At setup it asked if I had another Mac I wanted to use to load documents, etc, from and it gave me an option for methods of doing so.

The picture quality is simply incredible, I love that the keyboard is backlit, and the touchpad is so streamlined it actually makes it easier to use. It is faster. It has more memory. It's, without a doubt, the best laptop I've ever owned. I'm constantly on the go, so the thin size of the laptop is also a huge plus. I should of bought a laptop sleeve when I first bought my Mac, my only regret. After spending over a grand on this amazing device, I'm doing like everything I can to protect it.

Apple MacBook Pro MD313LL/A 13.3-Inch Reviews.I highly recommend getting some type of laptop sleeve with it, Laptop Sleeve 15 inch Neoprene Surf Art Style, there's something about this particular design that I just love. Makes such a difference now that I use it daily. Besides the actual case being lightweight and tough, it fits my Mac like a glove, I recommend it. In summary, the Apple Macbook Pro is second to none. The speed of the processor alone is worth the purchase price, my internet speed literally tripled when I first got online with my Mac. Highly Recommended!

Henry
After the upgrade, turned on the machine and few beeps and clunks later, it started flying. I repeat, it is flying and my machine is currently running over 600 threads without any sign of slowing down. virtual box? NO PROBLEMO! this little beauty is a little beast in performance. I have installed over 50 applications, running dozens simultaneously, 10 more browser windows open, and it just happy. I can't say enough about the multi-touch gestures. No other laptop I have ever used that had such ease of switching between applications, scrolling, searching, sliding and navigating. I have never used Mac OS before(not more than a few minutes of playing around at best buy), and I felt it was very intuitive to use and learned fairly quickly. I still don't know a lot about the OS, but it has not stopped me from doing what I need to do.

Dean
First of all, I am a systems engineer doing systems development for the past 15 years or more. I have used the very first versions of windows until windows 7. I have used all kinds of other operating systems like Android, Linux, Unix, Ubuntu etc etc.

This is my first Mac and I am very impressed with my 2 days of of usage so far. Getting used to trackpad and gestures took a while but I think I am comfortable now.
I upgraded RAM to 8GB (bought Crucial sticks from Amazon). Removing back cover needs some mastery of tools but when I removed the factory RAM and installed new sticks, they were recognized instantly and the macbook became even faster. If you are a normal email/simple app user, there is absolutely no need to upgrade memory. 4GB of memory is more than enough for this OS.

I could configure VPN in minutes (compared to hours on a windows PC) and it works right out of the box. There is no unnecessary software that came with this Mac and no need to uninstall anything. No virus issues as well. Everything simply works. No crashes or freezes so far.

I am an avid Google chrome user but when I saw how fast the Safari browser is, I didn't even think of installing Chrome on this.

When the screen backlight is set to 50%, battery lasts for about 7.5 hrs with light usage. Video/Youtube etc strains the battery a bit more.

Hardware is a work of art and there are no complaints about it. Looks and feels beautiful and very sturdy.

I expect to use this notebook for at least 5 years if not more.

If you are also a windows user and thinking of moving to Mac, just don't think. Do the plunge and you won't repent. I gaurantee it.

Donny
As a previous Windows user (11+ years), I was a little skeptical switching to Mac. However, due to my new career in photography, this was a must! I'm so highly impressed with this computer -- automatic updates, no pop-ups, no virus problems, and I don't have to wait an hour to restart the system! It was a little difficult for me to fork out the extra cash, but I'm so glad I did! No regrets whatsoever--I'm totally sold on Mac!

Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook (Wi-Fi) Review

Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook (Wi-Fi)
Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook (Wi-Fi) Review-In my experience so far, the Acer Chromebook has great battery life and Internet connectivity, is truly instant-on, and has required virtually no maintenance or fiddling to set it up or to get my work done quickly on it.

But it might not work that way for you.

Over the past year or so, I've progressively moved all of my work files online; and everything else I do is online too, mostly using Google's services (Gmail, Google Calendar, et cetera). I also use Google's Chrome browser--which is set up with the apps, bookmarks, and passwords I use daily already, and synced to Google's servers.

So when I turned on the Chromebook, I was instantly using all of my files and apps with no setup work whatsoever, and with basically no risk of data loss since all of my work is posted online. Everything else I wanted also worked out of the box: music players on the web, video, and now Netflix.

acer Chromebook
Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook (Wi-Fi) Review
Furthermore, it's as close to instant-on as you can get. I press the power button and before I've sat up straight to type in my password, the prompt is there.

Finally, if you are a Linux or command line person and have server access somewhere, it's very easy to get to those resources on the Chromebook since a reasonable ssh terminal is built-in. It just gets you to an SSH server--what you can do on the Chromebook itself is very limited from the shell--but that's what I really need (for Vim, scripts, etc.).

Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook (Wi-Fi) Review

If you live online, this is a fantastic computer. If you like, you certainly could get a cheaper netbook with comparable specs. You could even install Chromium OS on it and get a very similar experience to this one. But if you live online already and you want everything online to work perfectly, quickly, out of the box, with no ongoing maintenance (like you'd get, for example, with Windows!) I think the Chromebook is worth the small price premium.

13.3-Inch Acer Aspire S3-951-6646 Ultrabook Review

Acer Aspire S3-951-6646
13.3-Inch Acer Aspire S3-951-6646 Ultrabook Review-If you're coming in from the Desktop or casual dual core laptop that did the job, you're in for a most pleasant surprise. We all knew it was just a matter of time before the laptops of yesterday got more portable, lightweight and powerful. The Acer Aspire S3-951-6646 did it with class. I got mine a few weeks ago and began to load the 320 gig hard drive with all my "stuff" from an older Gateway laptop through the on-board system transfer software. After completion I began to test some of the largest spreadsheets and power graphic projects I have been working on and they all excelled faster, clearer and with less wait time during conversions than before, and it barely put a dent in the hard drive space. It also boasts a 20 gig solid state drive. Basically that's a secondary drive that stores your data for quick starting...it takes like 2 seconds to start after shutting the case closed. It has a lot of other great features too.

Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch Laptop Review

Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch Laptop
Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch Laptop-This laptop was purchased to assist me in day-to-day tasks associated with my job.
I currently work in the IT field and need a stable, working, quick laptop to assist me with repairs.

Toshiba has always built, what I consider, a high quality product.

This laptop is no different.

For the price, the Intel Core i3 processor really delivers.
After removing most of what I consider "bloatware", there wasn't a whole lot, the computer ran just as fast as it would have with a fresh install of Windows 7.

The screen is bright an vivid.
The keyboard is excellent.
The mouse pad feels good, you can always tell you're on it thanks to the grainy matte finish.
The laptop is surprisingly light for a 15" screen.

The fan noise, as some have reported, has not been an issue for me at all.

If you're considering a new laptop for everything but gaming, this is a very good product.
I recommend Toshiba against any other laptop brand.

RAUL
Ok so its been a while since i had a new laptop but i think this one does what i need and it does it very well. the speeds are snappy, the longest waiting time i had was for windows to remove all the bundle software that came with the laptop (seriously, who uses McAfee still?).

Windows gave it an overall score of 4.0 and the reason for that is because the ATI Radeon in this laptop is designed more so for viewing video (HD at that) which displays great on its crisp LED screen. if you find yourself being a media hog i would recommend at least a network/external drive or upgrading the one with it, it comes with 320 (good for moderate users) but media people on a budget will find that they can fill that up in a moment. I have yet to test it with games but according to several reviews they say that the video card should be able to play games like modern warfare 2, on its lowest settings.

The Multi-touch track pad is something i have yet to find a true use for, sure you can start in the corner and spiral around like an ipod to scroll down or up.. but why? there is a built in scrolling bar. Ok so you can pinch in and push out to zoom in and out... most people already know that the scroll bar does the same thing... seems more like a gimmick then something useful even the photo rotating command feels awkward to perform.

all in all its a good laptop for the price, not for gaming or long flights (average battery time i get is about 2.5-3 hours), but it fits that niche for people who need to have a big screen for either media or for viewing a lot of documents.

JOSH
I just received this Acer 3810T early this week and I'm very impressed. Solid build quality despite being very thin and the LCD is bright with very good contrast. It runs much faster than any netbook I have ever used since it has an Intel CULV processor - the SU7300. It also has a huge 500-Gb HDD and 4-Gb of DDR3 RAM. I have only had mine long enough to charge the battery twice - but I would rate the battery life at 6+ hours while surfing with wireless and brightness set at less than 50%. The speakers are pretty good - but not loud enough for long-term music listening or movies. I cannot detect any flex in the keyboard - but the keys are a little too glossy to suit me. Both the webcam and the on-board microphone are excellent and this is a great system for Skype calls. The lid appears to be aluminum but be careful - it is pretty flexible when twisted. But, to Acer's credit, the frame around the LCD is very solid and much better than the cheap and flimsy frames on most other sytems (except for MacBooks). The battery is slightly loose on one side on mine but it is not a deal-breaker at all. Overall, this is a great Acer for the price, with a really nice LCD and good battery life, but the build quality on the Acer 1410/1810 series is a little better. Oh - one last thing - the hard drive on mine is a Western Digital - no cheapy Ocean-gate or T-shiba on this system.

DEAN
I searched for a laptop for several months before deciding on this one. It seems that the 13" ULV Processor laptops from HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, etc all had issues of one kind or another that dissuaded me from moving in one of those directions. Most of the competitors also have the SU4100 processor, and i'm glad I opted for this SU7300 as it compares performance-wise with my 17" HP Core 2 1.73GHZ processor. The only thing it lacks is graphics memory, but if your intended use is not for high power graphics, this one will be just fine.
The only issues I have found with it after a few weeks of operation is that the screen brightness flickers occasionally and then returns to the proper brightness. Similarly, the audio will chirp once in a while with intensive processor operation. Neither issue is problematic enough to concern me, but is the only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5.
The build quality is quite good, and if I had to make the choice again, I would still buy this laptop.

GORDON
I have owned it for 6 weeks now. Great value for the money. Have had no problem. Wish the battery lasted more- it does not come close to 8 hours as claimed. If you watch videos - 4 hours is more like it. Performance is A+.

Really a good machine.

JOSH
I had done some research on these notebooks and this is by far the best 1410 you can buy right now. it runs the su2300 which is a dual core processor, much better than the su3500. 2 gigs of ram is plenty to get by on, i was worried id need more. i read some reviews saying HD youtube didn't run smoothly and it had problems streaming high quality video... but thats completely wrong. it streams video flawlessly on this little notebook. i connected it to my 42" lcd and used it to play movies off netflix, they ran completely smooth and at good quality. its extremely quiet and doesn't get hot at all. i installed Warcraft 3 on it for fun and it runs great even at full graphics! today i tinkered with the power settings and brightness and managed to get about 7 hours out of the battery life on web browsing. this notebook is a great desktop replacement and its so light and portable i can take it around in my backpack and hardly notice its there. my girlfriend has a $1,500 asus laptop and is completely jealous of this little guy. 5 stars hands down! love it!

JHONY
I spent weeks looking for an affordable travel companion and Acer 1410-2990 turned out to be the perfect choice for me. The computer arrived as described. I like its design - simple and business friendly look. Definitely doesn't feel cheap. Fingerprints are less noticeable on a blue cover. HD streaming from Hulu, ABC and such works perfect. HD Youtube streaming sucks but as I understand it's due to Adobe Flash not being available for 64 bit systems (yet) and not because of the processor which seems to be quite powerful. This notebook is very quiet and doesn't get as hot as my older 15" Acer Aspire laptop. Battery life is pretty respectable; I get steady 5 hours with various tasks performed. I also like the touchpad a lot (though it is smaller than that of a regular size notebook)

Some of the cons:

- RAM comes in two sticks 2x1GB so upgrading to 4GB is not cheap
- Webcam, though of a very good quality, is a low resolution one (640x480 for both video and images) which kind of sucks because 1.3MP resolution (standard these days) would fit the screen perfectly
- Bluetooth supported by hardware but not included. However, you can purchase Acer internal Bluetooth module from ebay for 20$ and install it yourself. I ordered it already, will report back once I get it.
- Keyboard is very flat, takes time to adjust

Overall, I think this model is powerful enough to serve as a primary computer for many. Any other notebook similar to 1410-2990 will easily cost at least 100-150$ more so it is really a bargain.

JONATHAN
I have had a slightly different version of this system (Acer Aspire AS1410-2801) for almost two weeks now - and I love it!! The only difference I can see between this version and mine is that this one has a 250-Gb HDD versus the 160-Gb HDD on mine. I have resisted buying an Acer for years because I have not had any confidence in them. The Aspire 1410 has made a believer out of me! I am very happy with it - it has a bright and high contrast LCD, firm keyboard, very solid build quality and Windows 7 runs great on it. The Intel SU2300 processor allows this system to literally run circles around netbooks that are using the Atom series processors. I am especially happy with the solid build and build quality since this is a low-priced system. This system also comes with Intel 4500HD graphics versus the older battery-burning Intel 950 graphics still found on many recent netbooks. It also has an HDMI graphics output, but I have not tested that capability. As with other manufacturers, it does not get the advertised battery life - but I am getting a solid five+ hours out of mine using Wi-Fi with the screen set to medium brightness. It does come with some shovelware and too many un-needed Acer utilities, but almost all Windows systems arrive that way nowadays. In my mind, there are only two minor cons for this system. First, mine came with a 6-cell 4400 mAh battery - whereas the more expensive Aspire 1800 series systems come with 5600 mAh batteries. Not a deal-breaker - but more battery life is always better! Second, the touchpad is pretty small. A larger one would be better but that would probably involve making the keyboard smaller. I almost always use a wireless mouse anyway so the smallish touchpad is not a major problem for me. I have one other system in this same category, an HP Mini 311, and I would rate the Aspire 1410 as an order of magnitude faster and better than the HP (but, in fairness, the HP has an Atom processor). Overall, this is a solidly built system with great battery life at a price slightly above the average netbook. I stongly recommend it and I am thrilled with my purchase!!
